I tried to set the phone up myself because I didn't want to be in an AT&T store in the thick of a pandemic. Here's what happened to me: I upgraded my AT&T phone in Nov 2020. It is outrageous, they have gotten away with it for YEARS and the only way to stop the charge is to call your bank. It's essentially what amounts to a fraudulent AT&T charge.
